SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Entry Level Surveyor performs beginning level semi-technical survey work under the direct supervision of Survey Technician and Senior Survey Technician. Tasks may be physically demanding while requiring limited initiative and minimal independent judgement. The Survey Technician Assistant would be responsible for the cleaning and care of equipment and vehicles, measuring and marking distances and assisting in establishing lines and grades. This employee works under direct supervision receiving detailed instructions from a Survey Technician or Senior Survey Technician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Works under the direct supervision of a Survey Technician and Survey Technician Leader • Maintains necessary equipment and supplies in field vehicle
• Utilizes plumb bob and tape or prism pole to assist in the establishment of survey lines and measuring distances
• Utilizes level rod to establish grades and transfer elevations
• Operates metal locator, shovel, hammer or other hand tool to recover or establish survey control
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma
• Must obtain certfication as a National Society of Professional Surveyors “Certified Survey Technician Level 1” within 120 days of employment.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Fundamental knowledge of general mathematics • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point).
• Attention to detail and completeness.
• Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Participation in a professional surveying society
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Most work is performed outdoors in a rigorous and dynamic environment. • Occasionally working nights, being out in inclement weather, being exposed to high-speed trains or heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking.
• Work hours vary from day-to-day and week-to-week as project deadlines move.
• Travel: 10%
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The hourly range is $26.25 - $34.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
