The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures for our orthopedic and spine specialists. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, surgical procedures, and insurance requirements. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in an orthopedic or spine practice and be able to manage a high volume of surgeries with precision and care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and schedule surgeries, pre-operative appointments, and follow-up visits for orthopedic and spine patients.
- Communicate with patients, surgeons, and medical staff to ensure all necessary information is gathered and confirmed before surgery.
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations as required.
- Prepare and distribute surgical schedules to the appropriate departments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including surgical consent forms and pre-surgical instructions.
- Manage cancellations, rescheduling, and any changes in surgical schedules promptly.
- Provide patients with detailed instructions regarding pre-operative preparation and post-operative care.
- Collaborate with the billing department to ensure accurate coding and billing for surgical procedures.
- Address any patient concerns or questions related to their surgery, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in surgery scheduling, preferably in an orthopedic or spine practice.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly related to orthopedic and spine procedures.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and scheduling software.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
