Job Description

The store manager reports to the General Manager and is responsible for leading all team members in the efficient and profitable operation of Breads On Oak’s Carondelet Street location. He/she is responsible for managing the day-to-day store operations, maintaining high cafe standards and conditions, and fostering a positive environment, which provides consistent fast, efficient, and friendly service ensuring a great experience for both our customers and staff. The store manager creates the tone and personality of the store by being an advocate of training, customer service, product knowledge and education, encouraging safe work practices, and a demonstrated commitment to our Mission and Procedures.

We are looking for a Cafe Manager to organize daily operations and motivate our staff to provide excellent customer service.

Store Manager responsibilities include scheduling shifts for baristas, monitoring daily expenses and revenues and ordering supplies, as needed. To be successful in this role you should have work experience with various roles in coffee shops. Also, you should be available to work during opening hours, including weekends and holidays.

Ultimately, you will help increase profitability, boost customer engagement and turn our cafe into a favorite local spot.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the cafe
  • Onboard new BOH staff and baristas
  • Train employees on drinks preparation and proper use of coffee equipment
  • Coordinate with vendors and order supplies, as needed (like to-go cups, coffee, milk and other ingredients)
  • Add new menu items based on seasonality and customers’ preferences (for example coffee drinks)
  • Advise staff on the best ways to resolve issues with clients and deliver excellent customer service
  • Ensure all cafe areas are clean and tidy
  • Nurture friendly relationships with customers to increase loyalty and boost our reputation
  • Ensures proper staff coverage, scheduling according to the needs of business while maintaining target labor costs.
  • Oversees all cash and media management functions. Able to perform all POS duties, front and back of house functions including opening and closing procedures, coordinating with the GM/owners as necessary.
  • Maintains proper loss prevention standards, reviewing cash handling procedures, deposits and safe procedures.
  • Maintains a clean well-merchandised store, following visual presentation plans and standards.
  • Plans, executes and communicates all sales promotions and new product information effectively and efficiently.
  • Identifies staffing, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training needs of qualified candidates. Facilitates on-going training and development of current staff.
  • Promotes and practices safe work habits, identifying and resolving potential safety hazards, operational inconsistencies and any team member or customer incidents. Documents accidents, conducts initial investigation and determination of root cause in the interest of maintaining a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Work experience as a Cafe Manager or Barista 
  • Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines
  • Good math skills
  • Availability to work within opening hours (including weekends and holidays)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Great customer service attitude
  • High school diploma
  • Additional certification (e.g. in Business Administration or Hospitality) is a plus
  • ServSafe Manager Certification
