The Senior Manager, Partnership Accountability will be a point of accountability within Global Development for the execution of processes in support of identifying financial efficiencies across Innovative Medicine (Janssen) Research & Development's multi-million dollar business partnerships and outsourcing activities. This will include, but is not limited to, Contract Research Organizations (CRO), Central/Special Laboratories, Investigator Sites and other R&D related service categories with an annual spend in excess of $1B.

This role will partner with Innovate Medicine Research & Development Procurement, Finance and other leaders to develop and implement a clinical partnership budget accountability strategy. This will include ensuring execution of related category contracts and business process oversight.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of Partnership Accountability metrics and strategies, including components such as: partner budget forecasting, partner resource management and validation of services performed.
  • Collation and data curation of partner budget(s) in coordination with procurement and operational/functional teams.
  • Create data inputs in support of operations and commercial governance frameworks and approaches, including oversight, service level expectations/adjudication and escalation pathways.
  • Support for collating partner budget forecasting including actual services completed, remaining budget and potential scope changes. Coordinate with internal functions to address partner actuals and forecasting as vital.
  • Provide mentorship and ensuring alignment with Johnson & Johnson policies and standards related to business partners, including applicable clinical operations practices.
  • Work with a large number of internal and external partners to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Provide transparency and be an effective change agent for global initiatives and seek to provide strategic decision-making for all areas of responsibility while championing the ideas of others.
  • Be a primary contributor to issue identification, review and resolution processes.
  • Serve as a global champion and leader continuous improvement projects that promotes individual development, team development, development of institutional knowledge and standard methodologies across the entire Partnerships team in an efficient manner.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Business Operations, Business Management or Finance).
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required.
  • Working knowledge of Clinical Operations and related business practices, including experience with supplier/vendor contracting, budgeting, and forecasting, is required.
  • Experience utilizing a data-driven approach and an ability to review, ingest and summarize data sets with a target of formulating hypotheses from data, is required.
  • Experience developing and owning the execution of strategy and business transformation initiatives is preferred.
  • Experience in assessing and implementing technology related to R&D business process requirements to successfully drive operational efficiency, strategy optimization, process improvements, and efficiencies is preferred.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring cross-functional, global teams is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Must have a high level of organizational ability and a strong attention to detail.
  • Must have strong negotiation skills.
  • Must have effective leadership skills with the ability to develop team efficiency and cohesiveness.
  • The ability to drive budget accountability, global alignment, efficiency, and quality, is required.
  • The ability to present and communicate optimally with a wide range of partners across various levels in the organization and externally and influence decision-making is required.
  • The ability to translate data into information/strategies and executable action plans is required.
  • The ability to provide transformational and strategic leadership is preferred.
The anticipated base pay range for this position in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA is $166,000 to $267,145.

The anticipated base pay range for this position in all other U.S. locations is $135,000 to $232,300.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington - up to 56 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
