The Dawes Arboretum is actively recruiting a year-round
Security Officer to join our team. This position will have a 32-hour work week with scheduled shifts from 2:00 p.m. 10:30 p.m., Sunday-Thursday.
The Security Officer is responsible for the security of The Arboretums grounds, equipment and buildings. The Security Officer also serves to inform and educate the public on Arboretum rules, events, memberships and programs.
The hourly rate of pay for this non-exempt position is $16.00-$17.00. This position is benefit-eligible and includes paid time off and sick leave.
Some of the specific responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: - Perform frequent security checks of grounds, including buildings, roads and collection areas.
- Ensure a great visitor experience by performing protective and enforcement functions in a professional and courteous manner.
- Promptly answer and respond to all calls from staff requesting assistance.
- While on patrol (roads and trails), pick up any trash observed. Report any large volume of trash to the Facilities department and/or to law enforcement to investigate.
- Responsible for security at various Arboretum areas during programs and events.
- Prepare accurate and clear incident and accident reports in a timely manner.
- Serve as first responder to any incidents or accidents on Arboretum property.
Qualifications: - High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- At least three (3) months of demonstrated work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Prior fire/EMT, law enforcement officer or military police/security experience preferred. Current or previous Ohio Peace Officer Basic training a plus.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).
- Sound conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Availability to work non-standard work hours (evenings, weekends and holidays).
- Valid drivers license and evidence of insurability.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
