JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Mental Health Therapist-WTP Division: HOPICS 

FLSA: Exempt/Full Time Supervisor: Program Supervisor 

Pay Range or Rate: TBD Revised: 4.24.19

Summary: 

Under the direction of the Program Supervisor for the Women’s Treatment Program, the Mental Health Therapist will perform professional clinical services in connection with treatment of mental illness and emotionally disturbed consumers and assist consumers and their significant figures in understanding and developing solutions to problems that lead to and result from emotional and mental disturbances.

 

The Mental Health Therapist will provide advanced level clinical assessment of referred participants in to the program. The Mental Health Therapist will provide psychotherapeutic methods in assessment and implement treatment plans in order to develop corresponding progress for various mental health disturbances. Assessments will include but not be limited to acuity level of client support and engagement, biopsychosocial assessment, service provision, crisis management and triage, and quality assurance. Incumbents of this position the Mental Health Therapist will provided with technical guidance, consultation and supervision to enhance their skill in developing biopsychosocial assessments, in formulating effective treatment plans that correlate with deferential diagnosis and documenting clinical notes. The Mental Health Therapist must be able to relate to the clinical and management team and effectively represent the HOPICS agency.
 

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct interviews, complete biopsychosocial assessment, and diagnosis newly referred clients 
  • Establish treatment plans that correlate with the clinical assessment 
  • Provide services to homeless clients with mental health issues, co-occurring substance use issues and physical issues 
  • Assist the consumer to resolve or cope with the mental, emotional and/or substance related problem 
  • Actively participate in strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation processes
  • Maintain an in depth knowledge of Department of Mental Health and SAMHSA policies and procedures and implementing changes as needed 
  • Provide effective service delivery to consumers by providing individual, group, family, collateral counseling and co-occurring counseling 
  • Be able to document effectively in accordance with best standards of care on a weekly basis in HMIS and other EHR 
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary team conferences to discuss, present, or evaluate the nature and progress of presentation issues 
  • Facilitate client access to appropriate medical and specialty providers as needed 
  • Attend all care coordination trainings/meetings/webinars etc. as needed 
  • Participate in weekly supervision (group and individual), treatment team meetings, and etc.
  • Participate in all mandatory program, division meetings and trainings, as assigned by the Program 
  • Supervisor, Associate Director and/or Division Director 
  • Assist the consumer to resolve or cope with the mental, emotional and/or substance related problems 
  • Be familiar with and able to document in accordance to the Department of Mental Health and SAMHSA guidelines 
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and adhere to SSG’s Code of Ethics and HOPICS’ Core Values
  • Represent the Agency in a professional manner at meetings and community events 
  • Maintain files/records and prepare project reports on client services in compliance with HIPAA & CFR42 and other funding requirements for auditing purposes. 
  • Must know, understand, and be able to articulate the mission, vision, and core values of HOPICS 
  • Ability to critically think, understand and carry out oral and written direction 
  • Participate in related community special events 
  • Regular attendance required

Minimum Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or related field, including supervised field work experience in mental health settings. Associate MSW/MFT must be Registered or 
  • Waivered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (Active and in Good Standing) 
  • Ability to work with client’s from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally 
  • Neat and professional appearance 
  • Attention to detail ad punctuality required 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet 
  • Experience working with homeless persons with co-occurring issues 
  • Experience with Department of Mental Health (DMH) paperwork preferred.
  • Professional experience working with in a multi-disciplinary team 
  • Fieldwork is required 

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • CPR, Finger Printing and First Aid Certification within the first thirty-days (60) of employment (along with HIV/AIDS training) in the first 3 months of employment 
  • California Driver License, Proof of Car Insurance, Reliable transportation
  • If in recovery, a minimum of three (3) years of being drug and alcohol free is MANDATORY 
  • Ability to work with clients from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds 
  • Verification of Employment Eligibility and Background Check Supervisory Responsibilities  
  • Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting (15lbs), and some bending, stooping, walking, squatting, listening, typing, and driving 

 

Environmental / Working Conditions:

  • The environment for this position is office and field-based. 
  • Must be able to work in an environment with many priorities, busy, and fast-paced. 
  • Must be able to problem-solve, adapt to changes that are unpredictable. 
  • Must be able to work in various shelters environments. 
  • Communicate with many sources including courts, Los Angeles County Department of Probation, Department of Children and Family Services and other community agencies. 
  • Must be able to work with highly aggressive clients: sometimes noisy, loud and disruptive clients
