Description:

The Wildland Fire Program, an Extension and Engagement program within the College of Forestry is seeking a Hands on the Land Project Coordinator. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

This position is funded for one year and is dependent on continued funding through an obligated five-year federal grant.

This position provides essential management, partnership, and outreach functions to a large integrated project focused on workforce equity and climate adaptation in the forested U.S. Northwest. It requires collaboration with diverse teams of researchers, extension faculty, and partners from community-based organizations. The position is responsible for developing and maintaining processes for project management and evaluation; and supporting a culturally respectful project environment for effective communication among diverse collaborators around the Northwest. The position also helps implement Extension education and technical assistance programming.

The Hands on the Land project serves forest/wildland fire workers, businesses, community-based organizations, managers, and academic faculty through educational programming, peer learning, and application of interdisciplinary research findings. The project vision is to support a regional coalition of diverse partners who together seek safe, equitable, and sustainable workforce development by sharing knowledge and strategies around systemic and new solutions. Through a combination of research, education, and extension activities, this project will:

• Build new interdisciplinary knowledge of drivers of inequity and workforce unsustainability in the forestry and wildfire sector.
• Grow regional academic institutions' capacities to address climate resiliency and equity in forested ecosystems through inclusive pedagogy.
• Implement culturally responsive programming that tangibly improves workforce equity and sustains capacity to implement climate adaptation.
• Apply knowledge generated from this project to decision making about climate adaptation in forestry at local, regional, and national scales.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):

Typically requires Bachelor's Degree in field relevant to program focus. May require certification or licensure as appropriate to the position.

Requirements :

• Bachelor's degree in a field such as environmental management, environmental studies, forestry, Hispanic/Chicano studies, public policy, communications, sociology, or other related field. Degree must be completed by application closing deadline.
• At least two years of professional experience coordinating or managing outreach programs, projects, and/or communications.
• Strong written and oral communications skills.
• Demonstrated experience leading groups: including planning, organizing, evaluating, managing, and delegating tasks.
• Ability to track activities, information, and issues; and operate shared virtual platforms for communication and data management across multiple organizations.
• Ability to manage competing time demands and multiple tasks independently.
• A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.
• Ability to successfully engage with broad and diverse populations in a culturally responsible manner.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

Type:

• This position may work a hybrid schedule, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, possibly with limited overnight travel.
• Ability to work outside in inclement weather and in uneven or rough terrain may be required according to program needs.
• Travel/driving is required to meet with project team members and partners.

Additional Salary Information: $60,000-$71,000
