Generac Clean Energy Solutions seeks an experienced, capable Electrical Engineer II to contribute to product development for a rapidly growing family of clean energy products produced through an international network of contract manufacturers.
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that new and upgraded products meet design specifications and customer needs across a broad range of applications and operating conditions. He/she will work closely with leaders in Pika/Generac Product Management, Product Development, Operations and Core Engineering groups, and communicate design decisions and results for rapid feedback and learning.
This position is based in South Portland, Maine. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: - Contribute to and participate in creation of new and upgraded product designs.
- Design and review schematics to fulfill documented Product Requirements and Product Specifications.
- Perform or support PCB layout for your design responsibilities.
- Select, specify, and test appropriate components necessary to support the design and create Costed Bills of Materials to demonstrate meeting cost targets.
- Perform and support analyses to verify the design requirements such as circuit simulation, DFMEA, efficiency, design margin, derating, and reliability.
- Contribute to or create project schedules to meet plans.
- Plan and perform Design Validation Tests of new designs and revisions.
- Perform or support early Integration Tests of new products and systems.
- Participate in, and at times, lead Design Review of new designs and revisions, including for DFM and DFT.
- Contribute to required documentation such as install and user manuals, data sheets, and application notes.
- Support, and at times lead, product certification testing with NRTLs.
- Provide ongoing product support to technical support, operations, and contract manufacturers.
- Participate in review and analysis of returned product. Investigate and propose root cause correction.
- Create and review ECNs on products under your purview.
Minimal Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
- 4+ years of industry experience, preferably in an electronic products company.
Preferred Qualifications: - Power electronics design, development, & test experience.
- Familiarity or experience in Schematic Entry & PCB design/manufacturing.
- Familiarity or experience in WCA, DFMEA, Risk Assessment, and other design analysis tools.
- Grid interconnect requirements experience.
- Knowledge of PV, wind, or other distributed energy generation and storage.
- Hands on experience working with engineering lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition systems, etc.
- Analog circuit design and Magnetic component design/specification.
- Familiarity with third party certification and testing (e.g., NRTL, environmental).
- Project management experience.
Knowledge, S kills, & Abilities: - Excellent electrical engineering theory and component familiarity.
- Creativity and innovation in electronics and product design.
- Able to work well in a team environment and ability to be a team leader at times.
- Hands-on electronics lab and benchtop testing & rework skills.
- Strong decision-making skills based on sound engineering principles.
- Excellent written and oral communications.

The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
